busy, is the thing

I haven’t posted for the whole month of November, and there’s less than six hours left, so I’d better hurry.

I’ve been busy, is the thing, and one could argue that I’ve been busy working too much, although I would argue that it’s about time I worked too much after not having worked enough for my first few years in NYC.  2012 has been a remarkable year for me, work-wise, and I’m getting to a place where I can actually start to relax about money a bit, which is pretty amazing (or delusional) considering the amount of student loan debt I have, but there it is.

Most of the work I’ve been doing lately has been for a small production company in Dumbo, mostly editing a reality show called Woman vs Workout.  While reality isn’t something I want to edit forever, it is challenging work and it has made me a better editor, and it is a big step up from the corporate stuff I was editing.  I’ve also been entrusted to be a shooter a few of the episodes, which is something I never planned to pursue but am grateful for the opportunity.  I actually got to go to Disney World for a few days earlier this week to shoot some episodes, which was as bizarre and surreal (and exhausting) as  shooting reality TV in Disney World should be.

Here’s links to a three part series of Navy Seals Training Experience episodes I cut, if you’re so inclined…

Part 1  /  Part 2  /  Part 3

Beyond work, I spent the first part of the month in Cleveland –– my sister, Owen, Franny, and I surprised my father by coming home for his 75th birthday, which was made even more surprising by the fact that Franny and I were actually able to get out of NYC two days after Hurricane Sandy.  We surprised him twice, actually –– once by  arriving unannounced, and then again on his actual birthday when we had a surprise party with many relatives and friends.  It was all lots of fun, particularly the party, and I think my father was very surprised by all of it.  I have pictures, but I don’t have the time or patience to post them now, so you’ll have to use your imagination and/or patience.

I spent Thanksgiving week in San Francisco with my sister and her family, which was also fun, and which I have many photos and videos of that I will one day get around to posting as well.

And I turn 39 on Tuesday, which I have no choice but to be okay with, so I guess it’s okay.

Now I’m off to Franny’s to enjoy the last few hours of November.
